THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE
How cooperation and coordination of effort across the organization makes the “whole” of the intelligence discipline greater than the sum of its parts.

Competitive intelligence rarely exists in a corporation as a structured, all encompassing, discipline that supports all business units at all levels. As needs for information about the dynamic competitive landscape continues to grow within places across the organization – grass-roots efforts are made to answer these requirements leading to the growth of pockets of teams conducting competitive intelligence to support their specific business unit. Additionally, different elements within an organization focused on research and analysis from various perspectives also attempt to fill the growing knowledge gaps – so we see the rise of market insights, market analytics, business intelligence, and other teams arising in organizations and often vying with competitive intelligence rather than cooperating with it.

This session discusses the development of a community of practice around the various analytical functions that arise in the corporation as they relate to the competitive landscape, as well as the coordination and alignment of the competitive intelligence functions within an organization in order to make the greatest use of limited assets and to leverage the combined strengths of the various elements in order to provide greater value to the organization overall.
